Argent To Reactivate LNG Carrier Argent Marine Services, owner of LNG carrier Arzew, has reached an agreement of a time charter with a Shell company. In connection with this agree- ment, Argent will refurbish and reacti- vate Arzew for recommission. A sister- ship of the recently redeployed LNG Delta was constructed as a U.S.-flag vessel in 1978 transporting gas from Algeria to the U.S. east coast until 1980. Formerly known as Southern, the vessel has been in lay-up in the James River since 1994 under the management of Argent Marine Operations — an affili- ate of the owner. In anticipation of the vessel trading in shipping routes for international gas markets, Arzew was re- flagged under Marshall Islands registry last year. The vessel will transport car- goes from Oman to specific terminals in Europe through Shell International Trading and Shipping Company, who will operate the vessel for Argent per the amended time charter. Circle 64 on Reader Service Card Kennedy Ship Repair Inaugurated In Galveston A new state-of-the-art facility consist- ing of a 315 x 96 ft. (96 x 29.2 m) basin dock with more than 40,000 sq. ft. of paved repair surface will be completed in the spring of 2000 — Kennedy Ship Repair. Located on Galveston Bay. the facility will be next to the Inter-Coastal waterway at mile marker 351. Focusing on repair of marine vessels, new vessel construction and pre-cast concrete caisson for the use in new marine terminals, this is the first envi- ronmentally safe structure of its type on the Gulf Coast. The facility is also con- structed to operate in compliance to all current, local, federal and clean air acts laws. MacGregor converted the 4,600- dwt/1,045 lane-m sisterships Rodona and Sapphire for Rederi Engstrom, Delivered in 1980, respectively as Balder Dona and Balder Vinga by the Swedish yard Karlskrona Varv, the ves- sels required the ramp modifications (from 12 to 16 m) as a result of their new charter to P&O North Sea Ferries. Deployed on the Felistowe (England)- Zeebrugge (Belgium) route, the vessel pair received its new ramps in early October.
