With a capacity of 10,000 dwt each, the ships are designed to carry coal to customers who do not have the requisite port facilities and ship unloaders. Using the Krupp system of three conveyor belts, coal is carried first from the cargo hold to the ship's bow at a rate of up 1 tons per hour. MacGregor was selected to supply similar shipsets for the first two vessels in the series, ROne (profiled on page 24) and RTwo.
