Built by Halter Marine at a cost of approxi- mately $4.75 mil- lion, SDM New River, the first tug of its kind, is capa- New Rjver christenmgi he|d on December 4. ble of generating 100 percent of its power in any direction, lending exceptional maneuverability. The SDM's twin Z-drives are set fore and aft and offset from cen- ter. Capable of rotating 360 degrees, they give the vessel its maneu- verabilty and power, necessitating a crew of only two. New River is the first of three SDMs on order from Halter Marine and will be assigned to Hvide's Port Everglades Towing division.
