V30 has the potential to cover the entire process from conceptual design to computer-integrated manufacture (CIM), and has widened the operating options available to users in terms of hard- ware compatibility. By embracing the Unix operating system, V30 has increased the market potential of Foran. Shipbuilding and ship design offices now have recourse to CAD/CAE/CAM/CIM systems that capitalize on the more powerful hardware developed by the com- puter industry. In use worldwide, Foran is a tool which can be used to cut costly lead times and raise productivity while accommodating the dis- parate requirements of hull design, drawings production, plate cutting, stability calculations, pipework, outfitting, concurrent engineering and other functions and procedures. One of the additions to the Foran suite this year has been a module known as SQLEXP, which allows CAD/CAM users to utilize product model information to support third party systems for materials man- agement, production planning and control, and other functions.
