Initial teaching responsi- bilities may include courses in diesel engines and diesel propulsion plants, marine air conditioning & refrigeration, introductory marine engineering fundamentals, shipboard automation or marine electrici- ty and electronics. This position is available commencing with the spring semester - January, 1998. Applicants with a masters degree in Naval Architecture/Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering Technology or Mechanical Engineering Technology and at least five years of relevant industrial experience are preferred. The successful applicant must hold a current U.S. Coast Guard Engineer Officer unlimited horsepower license, with a rating of Chief Engineer or First Assistant Engineer - steam and motor- preferred, and a degree in a relevant engineering field. Registration as a Professional Engineer a definite plus, previous teaching experience at the university level in highly desirable. Applicants must have a strong interest in teaching and advising undergraduate students, training and professional development of maritime cadets for licensure and employment in the maritime indus- try, and strengthening university and industry relations.
