New CaterpijlcHkEngine Tops 7,000 kW Caterpillar's Engine Division has developed the CAT 3618, a his power-to-weight ratio, 18-cyluiaer design with a fast commerc^l ves- sel application rating of/200 kW at 1,050 rpm. The ne^ engine is the product of a cooperative effort between Caterpillar Inc. and Danish diesel engine builder Bazan Motores. The CAT 3618 is designed specifically fo\ the fast marine transport indusuv^ Its 7,200-kW fast commercial vesS rating is application specific, based on a realistic fast ferry load profile of 85 percent of operating hours at rate power, with 15 pp*£tmt of hours maneuvering^Hess than 50 percent ratednp^er. The 3618 will use the^&BrPL65 E, a new, high lency, single-stage turbocharg- er design.
