New CaterpHJarEngine Tops 7,000 kW Caterpillar's Engine Division has developed the CAT 3618, a hie power-to-weight ratio, 18-cylujfaer design with a fast commercial ves- sel application rating of^200 kW at 1,050 rpm. The nem engine is the product of a cooperative effort between Caterpillar Inc. and vanish diesel engine builder Bazan Motores. The QAT 3618 is designed specifically fo\the fast marine transport indust^. Its 7,200-kW fast commercial ves rating is application specific, based on a realistic fast ferry load profile of 85 percent of operating hours at rate power, with 15 pgj»e£rit of hours maneuvering^Hess than 50 percentratedno^er. The 3618 will use the^B£fTPL65 E, a new, high lency, single-stage turbocharg- er design.
