Singapore Technologies Delivers Container Vessel Anan Bhum On February 4, Singapore Tech- nologies Shipbuilding & Engin- eering (ST SE) delivered 482-ft. (147-m) Anan Bhum to Regional Container Lines Public Co., Ltd. The vessel is a single screw, diesel-driven cellular container- ship, with eight hatches, and deck space for containers between hatch number eight and the superstruc- ture. It is the first in a series of four container vessels to be built by ST SE for the company, and has been constructed according to the rules of Lloyd's Register and the Thai Shipping Registry The vessel engine room is designed for unmanned operation, and the ves- sel was built in compliance with SOLAS and MARPOL regulations. Maneuvering capability is enhanced by a 600-kW bowthrust- er unit, equipped with a control- lable pitch propeller. The hull de- sign incorporates a well-faring stem with bulbous bow, and paral- lel midbody and streamlined rud- der. Palmer relies on 640 mm (25") Thor-Lube stern tube bearings for pollution free reliability. The ship is also equipped with Thordon rudder and thruster bearing systems. Today's environmental challenges and government regulation demand a move from traditional oil lubricated stern tube systems to pollution-free alternatives. The Thor-Lube bearing system combines proven Thordon XL bearings with Thor-Lube; a water soluble, environmentally friendly lubricant to deliver p\llution-free performance. Wear lifais comparable to conventional oil-lub\jcatedsystems and the system is consi equivalent to oil-lubricat^by most Classification Sopfetie: Higher operating efficiencies be expected with the Thor-Lube system. Operating friction is IOWKQ particularly at start-up and higher shaft speeds. Similar in size to oil-lubricated bearings, Thor-Lube bearings can be as easily integrated into conversion projects as new build. For pollution-free reliability in your marine bearing application contact Thordon Bearings Inc. or your local Thordon distributor (located in over 55 countries around the world).
