lustry, with protection planned at ;he Kvaerner Mandal yard in south- :rn Norway. Other projects expected to get juickly underway include the de- velopment of products for oil and fas production at Kvaerner Energy — such as carbon tethers for deep vater — and a study of deepwater echnology by Kvaerner Engineer- ng. In the shipbuilding sector, kvaerner could build such units as lulls, superstructures and prefab- •icated cabin modules for compos- tes. "One of our goals is to stay among he technological leaders for key >roducts," says Executive Vice Presi- lentDiderik Schnitler, who heads Cvaerner Shipbuilding. "Access to he most suitable materials is a ba- ic requirement for success in this imbition." Kvaerner's experience vith composites comes primarily rom the Mandal yard, which is luilding a series of mine counter- neasure vessels for the Norwegian tfavy. DuPont has the rights to a pro- iuction method that makes struc- ures in composites both cheaper md more environment-friendly to iroduce, while also boosting their trength. Kvaerner Masa-Yards Stolt Parcel Tankers Orders 42 Sailor GMDSS Units Stolt Parcel Tankers has en- tered into an agreement with S.P. Radio AS of Denmark, under which Stolt Parcel tankers will convert 35 ships in operation and install the Sailor GMDSS station. In addition to that, Stolt Parcel has chosen Sailor GMDSS units for seven newbuilding 37,000-dwt parcel tankers under construction at Danyard. Stolt Parcel will also get the Sailor GMDSS PC Simulator for all 42 vessels. With this newly de- veloped software, training can be carried out on an ordinary PC in the same environment as the ordered Sailor GMDSS stations. The pro- gram fully imitates the operation of all components of the Sailor compact GMDSS station. Widely recognized as the most advanced and pro- ductive trim/stability/ strength software. Specialized versions are available for ship opera- tors, for salvage engineers and for small craft design- ers. Includes efficient modeling for all types of complex vessels, and the ability to analyze them both afloat and aground. NavCad from HydroComp, Inc. NavCad offers an integrat- ed platform to predict resistance and power, and to determine optimum propeller parameters. With NavCad each aspect of a ship's performance can be evaluated for virtually every type of displacement hull, semi-displacement and planing craft, river barge train, catamaran and auxiliary-powered sailboat. Maestro from Proteus Engineering MAESTRO is a structural design tool which com- bines finite element analy- sis, failure mode evaluation and multiobjective structur- al optimization. Rapid modeling of structure and of realistic ship loads enable full ship structural analysis to be an integral aspect of the design process for ships, advanced and high performance vehicles, offshore struc- tures and submarines.
