PASSENGER VESSEL ASSOCIATION 1995 Convention & Trade Show Pictured above is an artist rendering of a new dinner/cruise vessel under construction by Service Mairne Industryis for Premier Yachts, Inc. of Chicago. The 240-ft. (73-m) by 59-ft. (18-m), 600-passenger boat will serve the Washington D.C. area and is scheduled for delivery in May 1995. The single-deck, glass- enclosed vessel is representative of the Seine River type used throughout Europe. For information on Service Marine Circle 39 on Reader Service Card a Safety Program" "Introducing the PVA Drug Test- ing Program" The Passenger Vessel Association's (PVA) 1995 Convention and Trade Show, scheduled for Janu- ary 14-18, 1995 at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco, is dubbed "Excellence Afloat: Meeting Tomorrow's Challenges" and will feature its usual mixture of educa- tional seminars and exhibitions. The Conference The PVA Education program will feature several plenary sessions which should be of interest to many groups. The following is a brief on select sessions, including date and description. • Saturday, Jan. 14: "Achieving Excellence in the Travel & Tourism Industry." John A. Marks, president of the San Fran- cisco Convention & Visitor's Bureau, will address winning ways in toady's competitive tourism industry. • Sunday, Jan. 15 "Safety and Passenger Vessels: Per- spective from the U.S. Coast Guard Watch Dog." The Honorable Jim Hall, acting chairman, National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), andMarjorie Murtaugh, division chief, marine transporta- tion, NTSB, will discuss the NTSB, which through its role in investigat- ing serious incidents and working the U.S. Coast Guard and other regulatory agencies, serves as a criti- cal link in the U.S. Safety Net. Apart from the education ses- sions, the PVA's conference seg- ment will feature roundtable work- shops. The following is a synopsis of the sessions planned. On the "•over*'! The convention planning committee has incorporated a number of changes into the trade show sched- ule based on suggestions by Associ- ate Members who have exhibited previously. This year, an emphasis will re- main on food and social functions in the exhibit hall. The show offers vessels operators a hands-on oppor- tunity to discover and examine new products and services.
