Kvaerner Eureka Expands U.S. Parts, Service Network Kvaerner Eureka's international network of spare parts, service and maintenance stations received ma- jor enhancement with the addition of New Jersey, San Francisco and Los Angeles operations to the exist- ing one in New Orleans. Kvaerner Eureka's marine equipment range includes cargo pumping systems, hatch covers, Ro/Ro access ramps and doors, self-unloading systems for dry bulk cargoes, diesel engine spares, engine room pumps, incin- erators, ejectors, gas detectors, in- tegrated propulsion systems for high speed craft, integrated bridge sys- tems, fire fighting systems and off- shore pumping systems. For more information on Kvaerner Eureka, Circle 170 on Reader Service Card Saint John Shipbuilding Parent Acquires H-DIL Formal agreements were signed recently for the purchase of Halifax- Dartmouth Industries Ltd. (H-DIL) by the Irving shipbuilding group, which includes Canada's largest shipbuilding company, Saint John Shipbuilding Company (SJSL). H-DIL has shipbuilding, shiprepairing and engineering op- erations in Halifax and Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. "For the long-term future of the yard and its employ- ees, this is the best thing that could happen to the shipyard," said H- DIL PresidentAndrew McArthur. When the present owners of H-DIL took over the company in 1986, the company was virtually bankrupt and had no orders except the completion of one icebreaker. MKW Power Systems Opens New Training Center MKW Power Systems, Inc. opened its new Training Center. Located in Rocky Mount, N.C. The Training Center is part of the 122,000-sq.-ft. complex that also includes the company's service and parts rebuild center, warehouse fa- cilities, Equipment Qualification Testing Laboratory and parts dedi- cation program. The new Training Center will be used for conducting courses, workshops and hands-on practical training on the General Motors Electro-Motive Division (EMD) line of diesel engines. MKW Power Systems represents EMD as an authorized distributor for ma- rine, industrial and nuclear appli- cations. (AMSC) has appointed Smartboat, Inc., a provider of fleet manage- ment services for the maritime in- dustry, as agent to distribute March, 1994 13 AMSC's Skycell Fleet Management satellite-based communications ser- vices. AMSC provides data and position reporting services with to- tal coverage of the U.S. Smartboat will now provide AMSC's Fleet Man- agement services to its coastal and inland customers. Smartboat will also offer advanced capabilities, in- cluding voice, fax and nationwide dispatch service, that will become available when AMSC launches its new commercial satellite for mobile communications, scheduled for this year. Mr. Hoehn has been transferred to the Jacksonville operating headquar- ters. Mr. Hoehn has been with Crowley for 17 years. Mr. Hoehn's appointment fol- lows the retirement at the end of 1993 of Nick Cedeno, who was with Crowley for seven years. Alex Werdenberg, service man- ager, West Coast South America Service, who was in the Miami of- fice, has also transferred to Jack- sonville. Mr .Werdenberg has held his current position since 1992.
