Peterson Wins $4.5 Million Contract To Build MK V Special Operations Craft An artist's rendition of the MK V SOC. Peterson Builders, Inc. (PBI) an- nounced it has been awarded a $4.5 million Cost Plus Fixed Fee (CPFF) contract by the U.S. Special Opera- tions Command to construct the Mark V Special Operations Craft (MK V SOC) System, a craft/trans- porter package, for test and evalua- tion. PBI's "Sea Stalker Class" patrol craft is an asymmetrical catamaran based upon the Cougar Cat 2100 "Dark Moon Class" patrol craft de- veloped by Cougar Marine, Ltd. of Hamble, England and delivered to the Spanish Customs Service, which is now in operation. The MK V SOC has a length of 71 feet, a beam of 18 feet, a draft of 4.6 feet and a top speed in excess of 50 knots. PBI's MK V SOC will be built to Det Norske Veritas (DNV) Classification Soci- ety Rules. Included in the MK V SOC Sys- tem is a craft transporter designed for both over the road applications and airborne transport in a C5 A/B aircraft. PBI has chosen Talbert Manufacturing, Inc. of Rensselaer, Ind. as its partner to supply this unique piece of equipment. Talbert was selected because of its experi- ence in the design and manufacture of multiple axle, steerable devices for many special applications. The contract is worth approximately $40 million. "Washington State went through an extensive and thorough evalua- tion process of state-of-the-art avail- able technology, and decided on Si- emens Cycloconverter Technology," said a Siemens spokesman. As the single system vendor, Si- emens is to supply the entire propul- sion package. Siemens is scheduled to start delivery for the first vessel in December of 1994, and the con- tract period extends through 1999. Washington State Ferries has yet to select a builder for the vessels, and is currently accepting bids.
