O&K Maritime, HDW Nobiskrug Combine To Build New Hopper Suction Dredger Together with HDW Nobiskrug, O&K Anlagen + Systeme GmbH re- ceived an order for the delivery of a hopper suction dredger. The two companies formed a consortium for building the dredger, which was or- dered by joint owners MS "Seekies." The dredger is intended for use in extracting sand and gravel, up to a maximum grain size of200mm, from the Baltic, and transporting it to be treated and transformed into a high- quality concrete admixture. The dredger was designed to be economi- cal, as well as flexible under varying loading and unloading conditions. For loading, the dredger is equipped with a side suction pipe. In order to ensure high mixture con- centration, the suction pipe is fitted with a pressure-water activated suc- tion head and an underwater dredge pump. The underwater dredge pump is driven from the main diesel en- gine via a so-called electric wave. The dredger can be unloaded with grabs and harbor cranes, or using a self-unloading system which is a new development. This system offers two possibilities for unloading: 1) The load is fluidized, drawn off with the main diesel-driven dredge pump, taken to the screening towers, drained in the screening towers, and transported on shore with a slewable conveyor belt; or, 2) The fluidized load is drawn off by the dredge pump and transported to wet disposal sites through a shore delivery pipe. It is also possible to retrofit the dredger with a system for dumping the load at sea. Diagram of the hopper suction dredger being built jointly by HDW and O&K Anlagen + Systeme GmbH. PORT AND HARBOR BROADBAND AD CP Assure the Safe Passage of Ships in Your Port A member of the BroadBand product line Circle 204 on Reader Service Card i JL.re you guessing water current speed and direction when vessels are being maneuvered into port? The Port and Harbor BroadBand ADCP measures and reports the current speed and direction in your shipping channel, in real-time, without interfering with vessel traffic. Harbor pilots can use this information to improve safety and to reduce transit time through the port. The port authority can use the information to better manage ship traffic. You can use directly- measured data instead of interpolating tidal charts, extrapolating off-site data, or just guessing. RD Instruments • Display real-time data directly measured in your shipping channel • Avoid interference with vessel traffic by mounting the ADCP on the channel bottom • Assure safe passage at other sites - Port entrance - Platforms - Moorings - Berths Call RDI today to learn how a Port and Harbor BroadBand ADCP can be used to assure the safe passage of ships in and out of your port.
