NORSHIPCO To Drydock LSD Under Contract Worth $5.94 Million Norfolk Shipbuilding & Drydock Corp. (NORSHIPCO), Norfolk, Va., was recently awarded a $5.94 million firm-fixed-price con- tract by the U.S. Navy for the drydocking phased maintenance availability (DPMA) of the dock landing ship USS Pensacola (LSD-39). The con- tract, N00024-85-H-8045,is expected to be com- pleted September 16, 1992. $8.4 Million Contract To Booz, Allen & Hamilton Booz, Allen & Hamilton, Bethesda, Md., was recently awarded an $8.39 million cost-plus- fixed-fee contract by the U.S. Navy for engineer- ing services and management support services for communication systems for the command and control of naval forces. Work under the contract, N00039-92-C-0111, is expected to be completed by March 31, 1997. IBM Unit Wins $43.2 Million Pact For Signal Processors The Federal Sector Division of IBM Corpora- tion, Manassas, Va., was recently aware led a $43.2 million firm-fixed-price Navy contract for 79 AN/UYS-1 advanced signal processors for various class ships. Work under the NAVSEA contract, N00024-92-C-5202, is expected to be completed in June 1995. Electric Boat-GD Gets $6.7 Million Repair Of Missile Sub The Electric Boat Division of General Dy- namics, Groton, Conn., was recently awarded a $6.7 million contract for the post shakedown availability of the USS Maryland (SSBN-738). The Supervisor of Shipbuilding, Conversion and Repair, Groton, awarded the contract (N62789- 89-G-001). $11.8 Million Contract To Ocean City Research Ocean City Research Corp., Ocean City, N.J., was recently awarded an $11.8 million contract for corrosion and materials engineering related to life-cycle corrosion control on ships and ship equipment. NAVSEA awarded the contract, N00024-92-C-4249. APL is also considering adding Vietnam to its list when the U.S. trade embargo is lifted, added Mr. Truchan. $16.9 Million Contract To GE For CV-67 Turbines General Electric Co., Navy and Steam Tur- bine Division, Fitchburg, Mass., was recently awarded a $16.9 million contract for four high- filter propulsion turbines and the refurbishment of four low-pressure rotors for the USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67). The contract, N00140-92-C- AE18, was awarded by the Naval Regional Con- tracting Center. Kvaerner Chosen By Italian Line For RO/RO Access Equipment An order for RO/RO cargo access equipment has been awarded to Gothenburg, Sweden-based Kvaerner Ships Equipment AB, the RO/RO de- sign center of the international marine equip- ment specialist Kvaerner Eureka, by the Italian shipowner Tirrenia. This is the first time that Kvaerner has designed RO/RO access equip- ment for Tirrenia. Kvaerner will design a port stern ramp, star- board stern door/ramp, main deck ramp cover and an associated hydraulic system for Tirrenia's 5,000-dwt freight RO/RO being huilt at the Visentini shipyard in Venice. Due for delivery in December 1992, the RO/ RO will be used by Tirrenia on its Genoa-Palermo run. The company holds an option for a second vessel at the Visentini yard. This new 25 Frame series delivers 20 GPM up to 1000 PSI and is available in both the fresh water and corrosion resistant construction. Spe- cial features that provide the pump with low weight and high heat, shock and wear resistance include: ground solid ceramic plungers; teflon composition seals; aluminum crankcases; and Zamak connecting rods, a self-lubricating bear- ing material.
