SSE Secures $38 Million
Contract To Build Two
Container Vessels
Singapore Shipbuilding & Engi-
neering Ltd. (SSE), the marine arm
of Singapore Technologies, has se-
cured a contract worth $38 million
(approximately S$67 million) for the
construction of two container ves-
sels for American-based shipowner
Tropical Shipping & Construction
Co. Ltd.
The vessels will be completely
designed in-house by SSE's team of
naval architects and engineers. To
be classed by Bureau Veritas, the
vessel will also meet the new IMO
1992 Rules on damaged stability for
RO/RO vessels.
The first vessel is scheduled for
delivery in February 1993, followed
by the second in mid-1993.
Tropical Shipping currently owns
12 vessels and operates a container
liner service to 17 destinations in
the Caribbean, Bahamas and Cen-
tral America from its base in Port of
Palm Beach, Fla.
Currently under construction in
the yard are the second and third
vessels of an order for three 445-
TEU Feeder Container Vessels for
Neptune Orient Lines of Singapore
secured last year.
