SPD (continued) several areas in which high reliabili- ty systems are required in an effort to expand production selectively beyond the military sector. Henschel, for example, is plan- ning to expand its presence in the bridge control market. Also, appli- cations for new battery monitoring systems in the utilities sector are being explored. Furthermore, the company is seeking to apply its extensive engi- neering expertise on a broader hori- zon of developmental projects. Henschel in particular has exten- sive project and engineering re- search experience across a wide range of monitoring and controls systems applications. For example, the company is currently taking an active role in the development of new highly distributed parallel net- work communications systems. The company is working with sev- eral government and commercial re- search units in various areas of ad- vanced technology, including digital systems, microprocessors, sensors, computer software, LED, A/D and D/A conversions and systems inte- grations.
