Stolt-Nielsen Orders Tank Cleaning Machines From Consilium Systems Consilium Systems AB, Gothen- burg, Sweden, has received an order for 791 newly developed tank clean- ing machines from shipping compa- ny Stolt-Nielsen. The new Gunclean equipment will be installed on seven Stolt Pride Class parcel tankers as part of a company ship upgrade program to- maximize vessel utilization rates while in port. According to Consilium Systems, Gunclean uses less water than por- table machines, thus minimizing disposal. Additionally, the system's programmed cleaning saves time with nozzles that direct-wash water in prescribed patterns dictated by tank confirguration, which enables simultaneous cleaning at the top, middle and bottom levels of the tank. The portable hydro pumps are air-driven, with pressure capabili- ties up to 10,000 psi, depending on the model chosen. Either water or hydraulic fluid may be used as a test media for these pumps. The total weight of the portable hydro pump is 40 lbs. The $2,000 scholarship will be awarded to a junior majoring in electrical engineering who has expressed in- terest in studying electric power, and provides full tuition for an in- state student. The student will also be offered a co-op work study op- portunity at Art Anderson Asso- ciates sometime before he graduates and will be known as the Art Ander- son Associates Scholar. Eric Anderson, president of Art Anderson Associates, chose to pro- vide a scholarship in this area of study to encourage growth in enroll- ment in a vital field which has lost appeal in the electronics age. Art Anderson Associates is a mul- ti-discipline engineering firm with offices in Bremerton and Seattle. July, 1990 New Literature Available On Coffin Mechanical Seals For Turbo Pumps Coffin® Turbo Pump, Inc. is of- fering new literature on Series 100 and Series 200 Mechanical Seals for turbo pumps. In this technical bul- letin, both systems are described in depth as to specific applications for each type seal. In the literature, both seal types are described as being designed to meet the most stringent require- ments of even the newest automated ships in service. According to the manufacturer, both of these me- chanical seals have been specially designed for maximum life while eliminating leakage and the use of asbestos. These systems-engineered me- chanical seals are said to be safe, efficient, lightweight, compact and offering a service life requiring min- imal maintenance.
