LICENSED Something is living in your fuel system. Many types of bacteria and fungi thrive on fuel. Whether you operate diesels or turbines, these hungry microorganisms can fill your tanks with slime that clogs filters, plugs lines and corrodes metal surfaces. BIOBOR" JF fuel fungicide helps you fight back. Registered with the Environmental Protection Agency, it's safe and effective when used as directed. BIOBOR JF measures up to military speci- fications, and it's been helping the U.S. military battle slime for more than 15 years. General Motors, Det roit Diesel Allison and General Electric all approve its use in their engines. So do Lockheed and McDonnell Douglas. In fact, more than half the world's commercial airlines rely on it. Before you employ a fungicidal agent, check its credentials. Get full details on EPA-registered BIOBOR JF from your distributor, or write to Industrial Chemicals Department, U.S. Borax, 3075 Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90010. ^^^illllf BORAX Circle 312 on Reader Service Card ON THE COVER Photo: The battleship, USS Iowa (BB-61) anchored at sunset. The $13.6-million complex re- places an old facility that occupied the same site. The new facility will provide maintenance and repair of DOT Ferry Division ferries and sup- port vessels and, on occasion, will service other state-owned vessels. The facility has a 1,000-ton-capac- ity Synchrolift system, supplied by NEI Synchrolift, Inc., of Miami, Fla., which will be able to handle any of the state's 16 ferries, the larg- est of which is 221 feet long at about 737 gross tons. The Synchrolift con- sists of a lifting platform, a transfer table and three work platens. Two of the work platens are sufficient for all but the five largest ferries in the N.C. state fleet. The third platen will support any ferry in the fleet. The complex also has an office building, parts inventory ware- house, and support workshops.
