TENURED FACULTY POSITION IN COASTAL AND OFFSHORE ENGINEERING The Department of Civil Engineering and the Department of Naval Architecture & Offshore Engineering at the University of California at Berkeley are seeking applications for a tenured faculty position (Associate Professor: Professor) in the area of coastal and offshore engineering. The position will be a joint appointment in the two departments. Applicants must show an outstanding record in research and in attracting and administering research funded by industry and government. It is expected that the appointee will take an active role in the interdisciplinary Ocean Engineering Program in the areas of analysis and design of floating and fixed offshore structures and coast- al structures. Some knowledge of the construc- tion, installation and maintenance of these struc- tures is also appropriate. An earned doctorate or equivalent experience is required. The successful applicant is expected to teach at both the undergraduate and graduate level within the two departments and in the interdis- ciplinary Ocean Engineering program. Addition- ally, the appointee is expected to have a dem- onstrated capability to attract, perform and supervise research in the area of Coastal and Offshore Engineering. Applicants should have a strong background and practical experience in at least two of the fol- lowing specialty areas: marine environmental loading (wind, waves, currents, ice and earth- quakes), motions and loadings of floating sys- tems, analysis and design of marine structures (including pipelines, platforms, coastal struc- tures, port structures, offshore facilities, subsea systems), construction and installation of marine structures: underwater robotics, computer- aided design, and reliability of coastal and off- shore structures. The position is open from the beginning of the 1988-1989 year.
