Cummins Uprates B Series Marine Diesel Engines —Literature Available Cummins Engine Company of Co- lumbus, Ind., has announced uprated high-output marine propul- sion ratings for its B engine models. These new 1986 ratings are primari- ly for recreational and approved commercial applications. The model 4B3.9-M is now rated 80 bhp at 2,800 rpm, up from 76 bhp at 2,500 rpm. The new rating for the 4BT3.9-M is 150 bhp at 2,800 rpm, compared with the current intermit- tent rating of 100 bhp at 2,500 rpm. The biggest engine in the series, the 6BT5.9-M, has a high-output rating of 210 rpm at 2,600 rpm, up from 152 bhp at 2,500 rpm. "These new uprates are not just the current ratings turned up," said marine marketing manager Tom Stanley. "The new higher ratings are achieved through design im- provements resulting in new per- formance components including pis- tons, turbochargers, and the fuel system." According to the publication, the Lebanon plant will extend Cincin- nati Gear's ability to efficiently pro- duce large hardened and ground precision gears. Structural components, pressure vessels, holding tanks, towers, heat exchanger shells, etc., are all pro- duced at Plant III from mild steel or exotic materials such as stainless steel, titanium, monel and alumi- num. And, according to the manu- facturer, Plant Ill's temperature- controlled hobbing and grinding area features the largest ultra-preci- sion grinder in the U.S., capable of producing AGMA quality 15 gears up to 13 feet in diameter.
