Mark Controls Expands SD Butterfly Control Valve Line —Free Literature Available Mark Controls Corporation's Center Line Se- ries SD butterfly control valve line has been expanded to include the SDT, a heavy duty, 300-psi rated valve. The SDT, as well as the other series SD butterfly control valves, have been designed for low-flow-rate-control applica- tions involving gaseous, liquid or slurry flow media, where tight shutoff is not required. Shut- off leakage capabilities for these valves range from 0.5 percent to 2 percent of the maximum capacity for liquid flow depending on specific materials of construction and temperature pa- rameters. Series SD butterfly valves are available in standard temperature options of 500°, 850° and 1,200° F, as well as optional configurations for applications up to 1,600°F. All SD Series valves except the SDL and SDM are designed with an outboard combination radial/thrust bearing, which provides easy shaft rotation and allows the valve to be installed with the shaft in either the vertical or horizontal position. Center Line Series SD valves are wafer style butterfly valves available in sizes ranging from 2 to 36 inches. Standard construction materials are a cast iron body, ductile iron disc and corro- sion-resistant steel shaft. The valves are also available in many other material configurations to satisfy the operating parameters of almost any application. Shipbuilding Standards Groups Seeking Participants ASTM Committee F-25 on Shipbuilding, and The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) Panel SP-6 on Marine Industry Standards, are seeking participants to join in their standards development activities. The two groups are working cooperatively to implement marine industry standards that will result in reduced costs and reduced design, con- struction, and repair time for marine vessels. At a recent meeting of F-25 and the SNAME Panel, the objectives of the Department of Defense Value Engineering Committee were dis- cussed. The DoD is investigating ways to reduce costs and improve quality by adopting ASTM industry standards, wherever possible, in lieu of Navy Military Specifications. Individuals and organizations interested in the work of Committee F-25 should contact ASTM staff manager Katharine Schaaf, ASTM Standards Development Division, 1916 Race Street, Philadelphia, Pa. 19103, (215) 299- 5529.
