It employs 7 thousand persons and in its yard, which occupies a whole town (12 million square meters), ships of any type and size up to 600.000 TDW can be built. From its three slipways and one drydock of 80 x 70m, specially designed to build offshore equipments, more than 80 ships and platforms of several sizes, totalizing more than 2 million TDW, have been launched. VEROLME DO BRASI L has annualy invested around USS 10 million in the improvement of its shipyard, thus keeping pace with worldwide technological development, providing the yard with the most modern design and production processes. Meyer, USN, the Navy's "Dean of Project Managers," was reassigned re- cently within the Naval Sea Sys- tems Command as Deputy Com- ]„.. \\T ] Dempster M. Jackson, who re- tired from the U.S. Navy. Admiral Meyer previously served as project manager, AEGIS Shipbuilding. He held that posi- tion from the inception of the AEGIS project in 1970, to the readiness-for-war of the first AE- GIS ship, USS Ticonderoga (CG 47), in 1983. Significantly, this ployed exactly on the schedule, and within the budget, established six years ago. Her transition from the Ingalls Shipbuilding yard, Pascagoula. Miss., to deployment was accomplished in the remarka- bly short time of nine months with highly successful performance at each milestone.
