Hitachi Announces Top Management Appointments Hitachi Zosen, Tokyo, Japan, has announced the assignment of new management positions. At a recent meeting of the board of di- rectors, Masaru Hattori was elected the new chairman, and To- shio Murayama was elected the new president of the company, ef- fective immediately. Ltd. Tenfjord Opens USA Office And Names Lithen Director Jens Tenfjord, managing di- rector, A.S. Tenfjord M.V., Tennfjord, Norway, has an- nounced the formation of Tenfjord Inc. with offices located at 95 River Street, Hoboken, N.J. The new company will market and service Tenfjord steering gears as well as coordinate manufacture in the USA. Eric E. Lithen, PE, will di- rect USA operations. In addition to the well-known Tenfjord rotary hydraulic steering gear, a new and innovative second generation rotary steering gear has been developed by A.S. Tenfjord M.V. The new steering gear is completely unitized, eliminating all high pressure piping. Of partic- ular interest, the ram cross section is circular as opposed to rectangu- lar as in all present rotary steer- ing gears. Similar to the earlier version, the rudder carrier bearing is integral with the steering gear. $68-Million North Sea Platform Contract Awarded Total Oil Marine Ltd. has awarded a $68 million contract to a Scottish joint venture shipyard to build a North Sea oil platform. The venture principals are Red- path de Groot Caledonian and the British subsidiary of the French company UIE which is based at Clydebank, Scotland. The steel platform for the North Alwyn field, about 130 miles east of Shetland, will be built at RGC's Methil yard in Fife which has a workforce of about 1,000. A contract for a second platform is expected to be announced later this year. Total has already said the construction of the two plat- forms will provide up to 3,500 jobs over five years and that most of them will be in Britain. Estimated recoverable reserves in the field are 200 million barrels of oil and 27 billion cubic meters of gas.
