K61216 The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities, Southeastern Region, is currently developing plans for a Vessel Maintenance Facility at Ketchikan, Alaska, capable of servicing the Alaska Marine Highway Fleet of nine (9) ferries and provide vessel maintenance service to other operators of boats, barges and ships. The Facility is presently planned to be a sixteen (16) acre vessel maintenance site in Ketchikan, Alaska, with a 6,000 ton capacity 90' x 400' vertical shiplift with end and side tracking capability. Support facilities will include 32,400 S.F. of workshops, 10,800 S.F. machine shop bay, boat sheds and support buildings, and utilities. At this time, no decision has been reached on how, and by whom, the facility will be operated. One option to receive serious consideration is to operate the facility under lease agreement with private enterprise. Therefore, the Department is seeking serious expressions of interest from potential lease operators who may then be given an opportunity to make comments on plans, lay- outs, and equipment lists as they are developed but prior to final construction or purchase. Responses to this inquiry will not constitute a basis for selection of an operator, but rather, will assist the State in developing the most workable facility possible and in determining the capabilities and extent of interest by po- tential lease operators. Responses should be made in writing and should include a brief narrative of your company ship repair experience and capability as well as your interest in potentially com- mitting your resources to such an endeavor.
