$401 -Million Trident Contract Awarded To General Dynamics The Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics Corporation, Groton, Conn., has received a $401-million U.S. Navy contract for construction of another Tri- dent nuclear-powered, missile- firing submarine. The SSBN-733 is the eighth Trident ordered by the Navy. This latest contract in- cludes options for two additional SSBNs. The largest submarine ever built, the Trident is 560 feet long and has a displacement of 18,750 tons—larger than World War II cruisers. Capable of carrying 24 intercontinental ballistic missiles, the Trident will have a crew of 154 and an endurance 40 percent greater than present submarines.
