New Shipyard Opened In Moss Point, Miss. A new shipyard, Moss Point Marine, Inc., has opened on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and will specialize in the construction of barges, utility boats, and push- boats, according to John Dane III, president. The new facility, on the East Pascagoula River near Moss Point, Miss., occupies a 17- acre site with 800 feet of water frontage with a 30-foot depth. The yard's first vessel, a 180- foot barge with a 54-foot beam and 12-foot depth, is under con- struction now and is scheduled for delivery in November. Con- tracts for several other vessels are pending. "Because of our ex- perienced personnel and smaller size, we are able to offer our cus- tomers high-quality construction, personalized attention, and on- time deliveries," said Mr. Dane. Before forming Moss Point Ma- rine, Mr. Dane had been assistant to the vice president, operations at Halter Marine, Inc., and facil- ities manager. Burnice M. Havard is vice pres- ident of the new company. He had been shipyard superintendent at Halter Marine's Chickasaw, Ala., division. Other officers are Chalin 0. Title XI Requested By Atwood Oceanics For $23-Million Drill Barge Atwood Oceanics, Inc. of Hous- ton has applied for a Title XI guarantee to aid in financing the construction of one submersible drilling vessel. The non-self-pro- pelled vessel will operate in either the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of West Africa or the Gulf of Mexico, according to the appli- cant. Vemar, Inc., Channelview, Tex- as, is the proposed builder of the 252-foot by 180-foot vessel. If ap- proved, Title XI financing would cover §17,500,000, or 75 percent of the estimated actual cost of $23,350,000. Delivery is expected in August 1981. Diamond M Orders $60-Million Drill Rig From ADDSCO Yard Diamond M Company of Hous- ton, a subsidiary of Kaneb Serv- ices, Inc., recently signed a con- struction agreement with Ala- bama Dry Dock & Shipbuilding Company (ADDSCO) of Mobile, Ala., for a semisubmersible rig capable of drilling to 30,000 feet in water depths up to 1,500 feet. The estimated cost of the rig is $60 million, and delivery is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 1981. Diamond M currently owns and operates four semisub- mersibles, five jackups, six plat- form rigs, nine barge rigs, five posted barge rigs, and one drill- ship. Maritel Commissions Its First Marisat Terminal —Literature Available Maritel, Inc. has announced the commissioning of the first JUE- 15A Marisat Terminal. The unit, aboard the Chevron vessel George M. Keller, represents the first in- stallation of the new "Third Gen- eration" JUE-15A terminal from Japan Radio Company, Ltd. (JRC) of Tokyo. The JUE-15A design evolved from a continuing re- search and development program and the experience of over 100 Marisat installations by Maritel and JRC around the world. Maritel reports the JUE-15A is in full production and over 50 or- ders have been received for the JUE-15A to date. The new termi- nal was designed to have complete flexibility in adding communica- tions and data-processing options, particularly in light of the ex- panded capabilities expected with the Inmarsat System. The company recently expand- ed its technical staff and moved to larger facilities located at 139 Old Solomon's Island Road, An- napolis, Md. 21401.
