$3.9-Million Contract Awarded To HITCO By Sea Systems Command HITCO, West Coast firm spe- cializing in advanced material technology, has received a follow- on contract in excess of $3.9 mil- lion from the Naval Sea Systems Command for manufacture of sub- mersible bow section components. The contract runs through the first half of 1981. Fabrication of plastic elements for the bow components will be performed at government-owned facilities at Terminal Island, Calif., which are operated by HI- TCO. Metal portions will be pro- duced at a HITCO manufacturing plant in Gardena, Calif. Headquartered in Irvine, Calif., HITCO has 20 years of experi- ence in development and produc- tion of submersible structures for the Navy. It has been a supplier of bow section components for the past 10 years. The latest con- tract award covers one of three bow designs produced by HITCO. HITCO is a subsidiary of Arm- co, leading steelmaker and diver- sified manufacturer. SHIP BEFSAIRS * CHILE ASMAR SHIPYARDS VALPARAISO - TALCAHUANO - PUNTA ARENAS Dry Docks to 80,000 Dwt - TELEX <101826 PH0SMAR Hagglunds/ASEA Gets $5.5-Million Order From Baker Marine The Hagglunds Products Divi- sion of ASEA Inc. has received an order worth approximately $5.5 million from Baker Marine Cor- poration of Ingleside, Texas, to supply low-speed, high-torque hy- draulic motors for the elevating systems of offshore jackup drill- ing rigs. It is the largest single order in the history of the division and probably the largest single order ever for hydraulic motors. The division is a unit of ASEA Inc., wholly owned U.S. subsidiary of ASEA AB, Swedish-based world- wide manufacturer of electrical and mechanical equipment. The contract specifies the larg- est Hagglunds motor, 10 gallons displacement, with a double-act- ing band brake bracket for deliv- ery during a one-year period. Pre- viously, Baker Marine had pur- chased about 300 of the large Hagglunds 80-series radial piston motors during the past seven years. The Hagglunds type 8385 mo- tors are the heart of the Baker Marine elevating system, which has a capacity 2 to 2y2 times larger than earlier rack-and-pin- ion jackup systems. Ocean Salvors Names Robert M. Loftus As Its New President Robert M. Loftus has been named president of Ocean Salvors Company, a joint venture of the Moran Towing Corporation of New York, and Crowley Maritime Corporation of San Francisco. Robert M. Loftus Mr. Loftus joined Moran Tow- ing & Transportation in 1962 and served in various capacities. He was named a vice president in 1979 and was in charge of the Construction and Repair Depart- ment. Following graduation from the State University of New York Maritime College, he served in the United States Navy and merchant marine.
