CERTIFICATE OF APPRECIATION for Section chairman was presented at recent 30th Annual Dinner-Dance of the Philadel- phia Section of The Society of Naval Archi- tects and Marine Engineers. The annual af- fair ending the Section's 1979-80 season was attended by some 400 members and guests. Robert G. Maximum continuous output is 10,700 bhp HOSE McCANN SIGNAL AND ALARM PANELS Stand Watch on the World's Finest Ships Bulk carrier Seagrand Ace has been delivered by Nai- kai Zosen's Setoda yard to Seagrand Company, Ltd. at 150 rpm, which gave a trial speed of 17.76 knots. Normal engine output is 9,750 bhp at 145 rpm providing a full-load service speed of 14.8 knots. DESTROYER DELIVERIES CONTINUE— The 29th ship in the series of jet-powered, multi-mission Spruance-class destroyers, de- signed and built by Ingalls Shipbuilding Di- vision of Litton Industries, officially entered the U.S. Navy fleet in recent commissioning ceremonies at Pascagoula, Miss. The Fife (DD-991) joins 13 other ships of the DD-963 class operating with the Pacific Fleet, and will be homeported in San Diego. A total of 15 more of the 7,800-ton, 563-foot ships are now operating with the Atlantic Fleet. Comdr. John Y. Schrader accepted command of the Fife; Thomas A. Brown, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Strategic Pro- grams, was the principal speaker at the commissioning ceremonies. Bulk Carrier Delivered By Naikai Zosen Setoda Yard The 26,977-dwt bulk carrier Seagrand Ace, constructed at the Setoda Shipyard of Naikai Zosen, an affiliate of Hitachi Zosen, was de- livered recently to Seagrand Company, Ltd. The new vessel is a diesel-driven, single- screw, single-decker type bulk carrier, with an aft engine room, forecastle, and poop.
