According to the report, Sweden followed well behind with 2.5- million tons, followed iby West Ger- many, Spain, France, Norway and Britain. The report said demand was high for tankers, liquefied gas carriers and oil-rig supply ships. M.I.T. Receives Grant For Ocean Teaching The National Science Foundation has announced the award of $72,908 to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Mass., as part of a program to improve un- dergraduate education in naval ar- chitecture and ocean engineering design. The award is part of a coopera- tive program that includes the University of Michigan at Ann Ar- bor, the Webb Institute of Naval Architecture at Glen Cove, N.Y., and M.I.T.—the three U.S. institu- tions that award undergraduate de- grees in naval architecture. Dr. C. Chryssostomidis, assistant professor of naval architecture, will head the M.I.T. effort. Du Pont Brochure On Bearings Made From Teflon Fiber E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Com- pany Incorporated, Wilmington, Del., has published a folder con- taining information on bearings made from Teflon® TFE fluoro- carbon fiber. Bearings of "Teflon" fiber withstand much greater load (up to 80,000 psi) than molded PTFE bearings and more important, do not have to he lubricated. "Tef- lon" fiber is 'the lubricant—the bearings have a coefficient of fric- tion as low as .02.
