MacGregor Company Formed In Singapore A new company, MacGregor South East Asia (Pte.) Ltd. has been formed in Singapore to meet the needs of the area's rapidly ex- panding shipbuilding and shipping potential. Established as a joint venture 'between International MacGregor and the Singapore company of R. Jumabhoy & Sons (Pte.) Ltd., the new company holds the exclusive right to design, sell, manufacture, install and service MacGregor hatch covers and other equipment to the shipping and shipbuilding industries of Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Bangla- desh. In the past three years, R. Juma- bhoy & Sons Ltd. has operated the Singapore MacGregor After Sales Station which services MacGregor- equipped ships, and is also an MCS engine-cleaning-system sales and stock depot. R. Jumabhoy & Sons Ltd. and its associates have ex- panded and now represent several major shipping lines calling at Singapore, Malaysia and Indone- sia. Its managing director A.R. Through MacGregor South East Asia, the Singapore shipyards, such as Jurong, Keppel and Sem- bawang will be able to benefit from the MacGregor Organisation's ex- perience and expertise in hatch covers, ro/ro ramps and decks, hull doors and side ports. Presently en- gaged in producing cargoships in- cluding Freedom vessels, these shipbuilders will soon be joined in Singapore by the new Hitachi-Ro- bin-Zosen and Mitsubishi (Singa- pore) yards. Having considerable repair expe- rience, the Singapore yards are al- so skilled in conversion work, a field where MacGregor know-how extends from simple side port in- stallations to complete ro/ro con- versions. There is a large shipbuilding complex under construction at Pa- sir Gudang on the Malaysian Coast opposite Singapore, while the In- donesian and Thailand Govern- ments both have ambitious plans for their own repair and building centers. The ASEAN .(Assoc. of S.E. Asian Nations) fleets are rapidly enlarging with the addition of new and second-hand general cargo ton- nage. It is for such vessels and for regional shipping lines that .Mac- Gregor South East Asia can pro- vide equipment and know-how, in- cluding the retrofit of modern hatch covers. Lines of ASEAN in- clude Neptune Orient (Singapore), Malaysian International Shipping Corp., and the National Lines of Indonesia and Thailand. Sun Ship Names William E. Jarrett General Auditor William E. Jarrett Sun Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Co. has appointed William E. Jar- rett to the post of general auditor. In his new post Mr. Jarrett will retain his existing audit functions and take on the general audit re- sponsibilities of the company and special assignments. He will report to G.C. Liacouras, vice president for finance. Mr. Jarrett joined Sun Ship in April 1957 as an accountant in the general accounting department. He was named an internal auditor in November 1964, a job he held until he was appointed manager of the shipyard's internal audit depart- ment in January 1967. 10 Maritime Reporter/Engineering News
