Todd Shipyards Corp. Signs Letter Contract To Build Eight VLCCs John T. Gilbride, president of Todd Shipyards Corporation, has announced that his company has executed a letter contract with Virginia Shipping Corporation for the construction of eight very large crude carriers (VLCCs) in the 380,000-ton range. The 'total cost covered by this letter contract will be approximately $760 million. Virginia Shipping Corporation, a New York corporation, has been set up to provide shipping facili- ties for a group of U.S. utility companies. Robert J. O'Leary, president of Virginia Shipping Corporation, stated 'that applica- tion for a construction differential subsidy was being made to the Maritime Administration. Inasmuch as the vessels will be built by Todd in a newly planned extension of its present shipyard on Pelican Island in Galveston, Texas, for which extensive financ- ing will be required, the agreement is conditioned on such financing being available on terms satisfac- tory to Todd. Moore And McCormack Elects Paul Tregurtha Exec. Vice President Paul R. Tregurtha has been elected executive vice president of Moore and McCormack Co., Inc., •it was announced by James R.
