As the water exits the nozzle, the pressure drops and the water begins to vaporize. As the jet veloci- ty drops or when it hits an obstacle the voids (bubbles) implode due to increased pressure. The collapsing bubbles release energy and produce ultrasound, creating a distinctive noise. The force generated by the energy released during implosion of the cavitation bubbles creates small- scale shock waves that tear foreign material off of the surface to be cleaned.
