A very high layer reso- lution in the decimeter range is possi- ble due to the transmission of short pulses without the known ring- ing effect of linear sub-bottom profil- ers. The system is comprised of a con- trol Console, containing the CW and Pulse gating electronics, and the hard- ware/software-processing (Sonar Signal Analyzer - SSA) interface with the computer. The transparent Acoustic Tank is constructed from acrylic material, measuring 1.2 m in length, 600 mm deep, and 600 mm wide, with a capacity for 400 liters of water. The new product will include all earlier features, and will use chirp technology to obtain extended range capability. It will also offer high-den- sity signal processing and increased number of soundings for improved resolution. Also from Kongsberg Maritime is the SBP 300 multibeam sediment profiler, designed for inte- gration with EM 302. Its E-sea Sound MP 35, used for shallow water sur- veys as well as full ocean dept, is able to perform sup-bottom penetration, multiple layer tracking and advanced heave, roll and pitch correction. Mud layer detection is yet another feature. The E-sea Sound MP 35 has now been equipped with a flash drive memory. RoxAnn was developed more than 20 years ago as an aid to the commercial fisherman, as it automat- ically linked the seabed type informa- tion available from an echosounder with the position of the vessel. The RoxAnn GD-A is a radical re-design and contains a number of improve- ments. The most noticeable differ- ence is the size of the system. At 200 x 110 x 60 mm and 600g, it is con- siderably smaller and lighter than the older version. RoxAnn GD-A is also small on power consumption and can be powered using the USB connec- tion from the computer. A 5VDC laptop style supply is also included. With sonar frequencies based upon the combina- tion of 100kHz and 400kHz, this sonar is designed to provide a high level of image clarity. The system can also be mobilized as a modular sonar on ROVs and AUVs.
