The Remote Delivery of Unmanned System Technology (RDUST) project from Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Panama City demonstrated a capability to launch a REMUS UUV from an Autonomous Search and Hydrographic Vehicle (ASH) USV, as could be used to rapidly insert a slower-speed UUV into a distant mission area. REMUS vehicles operated by Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and Hydroid, Inc., demon- strated detection of mine-like objects using side-scan sonar, cooperative behavior with other UUVs, via under- water acoustic communications, and capabilities for launch and return to an underwater docking station.
