Hempel’s Hempasil X3 Hempel AS introduced Hempasil X3, a copper and bio- cide free fouling release coating system based on hydrogel silicone. Hempel offers a fuel saving guarantee to back up the product. Hempasil X3 is designed for vessel speeds down to eight knots and an activity level down to 50% giving a greater flexibility for shipowners that want to convert to fouling release. Fuel savings of above eight per- cent are confirmed from a number of different ship types with significant differences in hull shapes, wetted area and operation. www.hempel.com Sherwin-Williams Protects Brazilian Oil Tanker Shipbuilder Atlântico Sul launched Brazil’s first ship in 14 years, João Candido, under the Brazilian government’s Program for Modernization and Expansion of the Fleet (PROMEF). It is the first of a series of 22 ships that are already on the shipyard’s order book, along with the hull of the P-55 platform of Brazilian oil giant Petrobras. Sherwin-Williams’ Euronavy ES301 coating system is protecting the new ship’s ballast tanks. Using the ES301 coating technology, Atlântico Sul has been able to double its productivity in terms of square meters of surface pre- pared.
