Michael Stephen Smith joined Hun-
tington Ingalls Industries as corporate
vice president, business growth. He will
work closely with the HII’s senior lead-
ership team in support of corporate de-
velopment and strategic endeavors and
will serve as the company interface with
business associations in Washington,
D.C.
Erin McElroy of Groton, Mass., and
Brian Mills of Sanford, N.C., were cho-
sen as recipients of Crowley Maritime
Corp.’s Thomas B. Crowley, Sr. Me-
morial Scholarship for Webb Institute.
McElroy (Class of 2015) is an active
member of the school community, and
during the winter work term, she interned
at Sparkman & Stephens. Mills, (Class
of 2016) is a member of the school’s
soccer, basketball, tennis, volleyball
and sailing teams. He has interned as an
outside machinist for General Dynamics
Electric Boat
Peter G. Livanos was unanimously ap-
pointed as Chairman of the Board of Eu-
ronav NV.
Marine Designer Paul Harman has
joined the Elliott Bay Design Group
(EBDG) staff in New Orleans, and Ra-
chel Walker joins EBDG’s Seattle of-
fi ce as a Naval Architect.
Tim Dool has been named as Chair of
the Board of Directors at the St. Law-
rence Seaway Management Corporation
(SLSMC). As the former President and
CEO of Algoma Central Corporation,
he brings an extensive range of marine

boot camp commencement ceremony in

Helge Vatnehol has been appointed
Group CEO of Rapp Marine. Vatnehol
comes from the position of Senior Vice
President Offshore Deck Machinery in
Rolls Royce and takes over on Septem-
ber 1, 2014.
Frode Støldal was appointed the new
CEO for the Telenor subsidiary. Støldal
replaces MCPs founder, Knut Fjellheim,
who has served as interim-CEO and now
returns to his previous role as COO/
CTO.
Carsten Ladekjær was named Chief
Executive Offi cer of KPI Bridge Oil, a
global broker and trader in marine bun-
kers, marine lubricants and risk manage-
ment products.

Rolls-Royce announced the completion
of its acquisition of Rolls-Royce Power
Systems (RRPS). Ulrich Dohle, CEO of
Rolls-Royce Power Systems said, “With
our well-known MTU high-speed en-
gines, MTU Onsite Energy distributed
energy systems, Bergen medium-speed
engines and L’Orange fuel-injection sys-
tems, we are proud that we are now a full

OceanSaver CCO Tor Atle Eiken re-
ports that OceanSaver said it has re-
ceived a rush of ballast water treatment
(BWT) system orders for large vessels.
The Norwegian fi rm, a BWT specialist
developing solutions since 2003, has
won orders for more than 40 systems in
the last six months, with some 21 units
delivered so far this year.
The latest contracts, worth approximate-
ly $30 million, cover a diverse range of
large tonnage, from a number of key in-
ternational markets, with VLCCs, Afra-
max tankers, product tankers and Cape
Size bulk carriers. A pair of Taiwanese-
controlled VLCCs, currently under con-
struction in Japan, are the latest assets in
the orderbook.
Stevens Institute of Technology was
selected as the lead institution for a new
Center of Excellence for Maritime Re-
search (CMR). The selection, announced
by the U.S. Department of Homeland
Security (DHS) Science and Technology
(S&T) Directorate will provide Stevens
with $2 million per year for fi ve years.
The Center will also include the follow-
ing partner institutions: MIT, University
of Miami, Rutgers University, Univer-
sity of Puerto Rico and Elizabeth City
State University. Stevens also has new
partners with which it will collaborate
on research projects, including LSU,
Florida Atlantic University, and the Uni-
versity of Connecticut.

(SUNY) Maritime College has been
named a Best Northeastern College by
The Princeton Review for an eighth suc-
cessive year. Maritime College is one of
226 colleges and universities from an
11-state region that The Princeton Re-
view recommends to college applicants
in its 2015 print and online editions.
Deltamarin Ltd. has established a sub-
sidiary, Deltamarin Floating Construc-
tion Ltd., to enlarge the scope of the
group’s services. The new company will
focus on delivering engineering, pro-
curement, construction and installation
solutions for the marine and offshore in-
dustry on turnkey basis.
