Thomas Named President
Arthur Levy Boat Service
Ogden U. Thomas Jr.
Ogden U. Thomas Jr. has been
named president of Arthur Levy
Boat Service, the petroleum work-
boat subsidiary of Petrolane In-
corporated.
He succeeds Arthur Levy Jr.,
who resigned last month to enter
a private business venture. Mr.
Levy has been president and gen-
eral manager since October 1974.
Mr. Thomas will be the third
president since the workboat com-
pany was founded in 1935. He has
been with the Levy firm since
1969, serving as company con-
troller, and then general manager
of Brazil operations before be-
coming a vice president and as-
sistant general manager in 1974.
Levy, which is headquartered
in Morgan City, La., operates one
of the largest worldwide fleets of
workboats for the petroleum serv-
ice industry. It became a Petro-
lane subsidiary in 1968, and pro-
jects sales in 1976 will exceed
$40 million.
Bird-Johnson Opens
West Coast Office
as
Herbert I. Chatterton
The Marine Division of Bird-
Johnson Company of Walpole,
Mass., has recently opened an
office in Newport Beach, Calif.,
which will be under the direction
of Herbert I. Chatterton.
Mr. Chatterton has been asso-
ciated with the marine industry
for many years, serving it in such
capacities as sales engineer, as-
sistant manager of engineering,
and assistant general manager
for engineering and new construc-
tion. His experience covers a
broad variety of military and
commercial vessels, and most re-
cently the design and conversion
of drilling ships for the offshore
industry.

J.W. Berg AB of Goteborg,
Sweden, manufacturers of con-
trollable-pitch propellers for ships
up to 20,000 bhp, has announced
the appointment of Snyder As-
sociates, Inc. of Essex, Conn., as
their exclusive sales represent-
atives in the USA. Snyder Asso-
ciates, Inc. is a marine consult-
ancy and sales representative for
marine equipment under the di-
rection of Asa E. Snyder, presi-
dent. Sales of Berg propellers
outside the New England area will
be handled by distributors to be
appointed by Snyder Associates,
Inc. Discussions are also under-
way to complete arrangements
with suitable U.S. service rep-
resentatives.
The Berg propeller is con-
structed at a new factory outside
Goteborg, which only manufac-
tures variable-pitch propellers.
Swedish craftsmanship and engi-
neering go into every Berg pro-
peller, which now number about
3,000 in ships all over the world.
Typical applications include:
trawlers, cargo vessels, tugboats,
supply vessels, and fishing vessels.
